The Expat Coaches was started out of a passion for helping people. Our Founder, Katia Mayhew grew up in Porto before moving to the USA with her husband for more than a decade. In 2019, she moved back to Portugal only to realize how challenging it was to return. Paperwork, cultural changes and logistics made it feel like she was moving to a foreign country she knew nothing about. The next few years introduced us to dozens of other couples and families navigating the bureaucracy and struggling to get settled here. Being a native speaker and having learned from her experiences, she has built an extraordinary team to help make Porto feel like your home.

Katia and her team have been instrumental in getting me settled in my new home in Porto. She helped me research and sign up for private health insurance, get my power turned back on after a blown fuse in my building and has introduced me to great new friends that also call Porto their home.
